our story

 the starting point

Our story begins in the early 1980s. Originally established as a real estate investment company, it quickly transformed into a development company. With a multitude of products to market and lease, a man named Mickey Ashmore arrived and established the core values of the company – client service through exceeding expectations. He valued doing the right thing. "We were known as the good guys who wear white hats just like the cowboys in the Westerns we watched as kids," says Ashmore. More and more success followed through best in class client service. Mickey took over the company in the early 1990s and continued to focus on offering unparalleled client service through training, retaining, and partnering with the best industry service providers. By the end of the '90s, the firm expanded its reach through its leadership in ChainLinks. In the early 2000s, the company became recognized as a regional powerhouse heavily focused on retail real estate brokerage. But, when you have a good thing clients want and expect more. So, the firm further broadened its offering by acquiring a major institutional player in Asset and Management services. UCR continued to expand its offering during the financial downturn of the early 2010s by adding Investment Sales. And in 2012, the firm created the UCR Development group. Responding to the anticipated growth in the market and the desire to continue its national reach, UCR merged into CBRE in 2015, making UCR Development a stand-alone private development company with a mission to increase property value through transformational development processes.

We develop commercial real estate. Our experience and values are unique to the industry. We value client relations and place them at the top. Our clients are tenants and investors, and we work hard to strike a balance among the two. Our experience crosses various product sectors, including single-tenant build-to-suits, retail community and regional shopping centers, Class A office, and mixed-use development.

We rely on technology, industry wisdom, years of experience, and decades-long relationships spanning the country. We are disciplined and adhere to our version of the development process. We work for clients we respect and enjoy being with and take pride in being able to help them achieve. Ashmore will tell you, "we take our clients' business seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously." Stakeholders include all those that participate in the development process. Our job is to derive a shared vision, create and plan, orchestrate the process and execute it. Achievement is derived from a collaborative approach to stakeholder work.
